Two more oneworld alliance airlines launch flights from Milan Malpensa

01 Mai 2008

oneworld®, the leading quality global airline alliance, is boosting its presence at Milan Malpansa with two more of its member carriers launching services at the airport.   Malév Hungarian Airlines has just added the gateway to its network with American Airlines to follow from tomorrow (1 May).

With British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines and Royal Jordanian already flying to Malpensa, it means the Milan airport will be served by seven of oneworld's ten member airlines, making it even easier to reach the near 700 destinations in some 150 countries served by the alliance's carriers.

American Airlines is the biggest carrier in the world.  It will connect Malpensa daily non-stop with its New York JFK hub from 1 May, with Boeing 767-300s fitted with 30 of Next Generation Business Class seats that convert into lie-flat beds, and 191 Economy/Coach seats.

Flights will be timed to provide excellent connections at JFK, where American has recently opened its new state-of-the-art, US$1.3 billion, 1,5 million sq ft terminal, from where it flies non-stop to 45 cities.

Malév Hungarian Airlines has just begun flying between Malpensa and its Budapest hub with twice daily Boeing 737600s, offering Business and Economy Class.   Flights are timed to provide smoothest transfers to and from Malév's extensive network in Central and Eastern Europe, where it is one of the leading airlines.

Also this summer, Iberia is raising the frequency of its flights between Milan Malpensa and its Madrid hub by 50 per cent - to six a day from four a day a year ago.

The increase in services by oneworld airlines at Malpensa comes as the alliance launches its latest advertising campaign in Italy.

This follows the grouping's move in September to designate the country as one of only six "key target markets" worldwide, where the alliance and its member airlines work more closely together, offering individual and corporate customers a greater range of services and benefits and investing more resources to support their collective efforts throughout the country.

oneworld extended its highly successful businessflyer programme to small and medium sized corporate customers based in Italy at that time, enabling them to gain substantial discounts on their business travel in return for a more regular relationship with oneworld member airlines.

The alliance has also recently launched a special website dedicated to its customers in Italy - oneworld.com/italia
